There is tar on Pensacola's

sugar-white beaches,

bikini bathing

next to hazmat suits

and anger in the streets,

anger from beachcombers.

Disgusting.

Look at that,

that's disgusting, BP.

You want that in your backyard?

There is also confusion about

what to do.

Floridians are out in force

to protect their shore;

a bagful, a cupful,

a plastic-toyful at a time.

But the state wants to stop that

to spare beachgoers

minor skin irritation and

perhaps panic.

Essentially if you see the stuff,

let somebody

who has already been trained to

pick it up pick it up instead of you.

So far, the only sign of that oil

on these beaches is this tarry goo.

But that main oil slick is

just a mile or two offshore.

And Floridians are anxiously

wondering when it will hit,

and how badly it will tar

the image of a state

whose main product is itself.

BP could see the oil pouring out

of the bottom of the ocean,

but publicly seemed to be

downplaying the hard reality.

Brian Ross obtained the video

BP refused to let us see

for 20 days. Brian.

Well, Diane, these new videos

show clearer than ever how BP,

with the apparent help of

the US Coast Guard,

kept the public in the dark

for weeks

about just how bad things were

beneath the surface.

Nine days after the explosion,

on May 1,

this still picture was the only

image the public was given

of what was happening

underwater:

A BP photograph of a broken pipe

spewing oil

released by the US Coast Guard.

Compare that to the video

the Coast Guard and BP had

on that day

but did not make public.

For so many frustrated fliers,

there may finally be some relief,

including more money

if you're bumped off a flight.

How about

those pesky luggage fees?

Airlines would have to

prominently display them

on their website homepage

so there are no surprises.

Airlines must also be upfront

about the true cost of a ticket.

JetBlue for example is touting

a 54-dollar one-way fare

from Boston to Washington.

Sounds great, but adding

multiple fees and taxes,

and that balloons up

to nearly $70.

The bottom line is that

it's hard to get that full price

and compare apples to apples

on the Internet

and that's what people want.

They want not

to be nickeled-and-dimed,

and if they are going

to be nickeled-and-dimed,

to know about it ahead of time.

You might have noticed

both parties talking more about

the deficit lately,

but the debt

just keeps on climbing.

How much is $13 trillion?

If you placed 13 trillion

one-dollar bills end-to-end,

you could create a line extending

all the way to Jupiter and back.

It took the federal government

206 years to hit

the first trillion dollars in debt,

and to go from $12 trillion to

$13 trillion, just six months.

We will have a debt,

on the course we're on,

of 400% of

our gross domestic product

and that will bury us.
