After that attempted attack in
Times Square,
we wondered about
the surveillance;
the cameras that offer another
line of defense against terrorists.
These days, if it happens
in public, it's probably on tape.
By one estimate, there were
30 million surveillance cameras
currently installed in the US,
recording billions of hours of
footage every week.
Inside the Square, there are
electronic eyes on me everywhere,
outside of stores, carried by
tourists, monitoring traffic.
In an area like Times Square,
where there is no expectation
of privacy,
which is a key target
for extremist groups,
people, I think, have to have
agreed to some trade-off.
Polls show a majority of Americans
favor increased video surveillance.
