All day long, the people of
the Gulf have told us
they want Americans
to remember this day
as the day they said,
"Enough is enough."
In Port Fourchon,
they are not dreading the oil,
they are knee-deep in it.
Teams of cleanup crews have
descended on the beach here
sopping up and bagging up
countless gallons of crude.
The Governor warns his entire
shore could look like this soon
if he doesn't get more help now.
We need more boom,
more skimmers, more vacuums,
more jack-up barges
that are still in short supply.
And let's be clear: Every day that
this oil sits and waits for cleanup
is one more day
that more of our marsh dies.
We've been frustrated
with the disjointed effort to date
that has too often meant
too little, too late
for the oil hitting our coast.
