Tomorrow in Washington,
hearings start,
the confirmation hearings for,
in the Senate for Elena Kagan,
the President's nominee
for the Supreme Court.
Kagan herself once wrote
that confirmation hearings
have become
a "vapid and hollow charade."
Now those words may well
come back to haunt her.
Ranking Republicans
made it clear today,
they are gearing up
for a political fight,
indicating where Elena Kagan's
record might make her vulnerable.
Having never served as a judge,
senators won't be able to
dissect her rulings,
so the focus has turned to
Kagan's politics.
Democrats expect
Kagan will be confirmed,
but the woman who once called
the hearings process
"vapid and hollow" may have to
eat her words this week.
