The legacy of Apollo 13.
40 years ago tonight,
all of humanity was riveted
watching helplessly
as the lives of three American
astronauts hung in the balance.
Houston, we've had a problem.
The Apollo 13 spacecraft
has lost all electrical power.
Using their limited engine power,
they had to navigate around
the dark side of the moon
and entered the gravitational
current
that would slingshot them back
towards Earth.
40 years ago, a hero's welcome
in the Pacific Ocean.
And last night, the surviving
Apollo astronauts
and some of the heroes from
mission control reunited
to commemorate the mission
that, while failing,
showed a new frontier of
human courage.
