The President said it's a step
toward energy independence
as he called for the United States
to start drilling
for oil and natural gas
off the US coast in the water.
Irreversible(元に戻せない) damage for
the ecosystem(生態系).
I just would be really concerned(《be ～》～について心配している).
They were reacting to
President Obama's decision
to allow drilling for oil and gas
50 miles off the coast of Virginia
and his decision(決定、決意) to allow(認める、許す)
exploration(探検、探査、調査) for oil and gas
in the Outer Continental Shelf
from Delaware
to the middle of Florida
and to open areas for
possible development(開発、発達、発展)
in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska.
This is not a decision
that I've made lightly(簡単に、明るく).But the bottom line is this:
We are going to need to harness(エネルギー・支持などを利用する)
traditional sources of fuel
even as we ramp up(増やす) production(産出、生産、生産高) of
new sources of renewable(再生可能な),
homegrown energy.
エネルギーの自立に 近づく一歩だ。
オバマ大統領が米沿岸での
石油やガスの開発を呼びかけた。

とても心配です。
今後 認められるのは―
バージニア州沖での
石油や ガスの採掘
デラウェア沖などの領海外大陸棚で

開発も検討する。
簡単な決断ではありませんでした。
従 来の燃料の有効利用も―
再生可能なエネルギーの増産に
並行して必要です。
