04/09/10 新種の猿人化石を発見
Archaeologist(考古学者) Lee Berger,
more than 20 years in the field(の分野で),
countless(数え切れないほどの) papers,
international renown(有名、高名、名声).
Matthew Berger, not much of
a resume(経歴、履歴書) at 9 years old,
but he went along with his dad
in an area in South Africa known
as the Cradle(揺りかご) of Humankind.
And guess what,
the 9-year-old stumbled(偶然見つける) upon
what may be the missing link.
I thought it was
just an antelope(アンテロープ、牛科の動物).
So I called my dad over and
about 5 meters away,
he started swearing(罵る、誓う)
and I was like,
"What did I do wrong?"
And he was like,
"Nothing, nothing,
you found a hominid."
Hominids, not quite(ぴったりではない) human,
not quite ape.
1.9 million years ago,
they were only about 4 feet tall,
their brains were
3 times smaller than ours.

“猿 人だ”と言ったんだ。

骨は190万年前のもので―
身 長4フィート
脳は我々の3分の1だった。
