The year was 1969;
Woodstock, Apollo 11
landing on the moon
and a little-known children's
television program
landing in living rooms
across the country.
Its creators called it
an experiment:
Could children actually learn
from TV?
Will their parents turn it on?
Well, in fact,
in that very first year,
it was banned in Mississippi
for the first year
because of the integrated（差別をしない） cast.
Gordon and Susan
and Maria, the first Latina in
a major role on television.
We were on to something
really magnificent.
Because we were this
multiracial （他民族）cast.
And of course there were
the costars（共演スター） too,
Big Bird, Ernie and Bert
and Oscar.
And today, they welcomed
the first African-American
First Lady.
I think that the country has
finally caught up with （～に追いつく）us.
